Bio
Dr. Vishwanath Koti is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bengaluru, with over 21 years of academic experience. His academic and research expertise encompasses metal matrix composites, tribology, nanocomposites, advanced materials, machining science, and machine learning applications in manufacturing.
Dr. Koti has established a strong research profile with an H-index of 11 and around 40 scholarly publications in international journals and Scopus-indexed conferences, including reputed venues such as Nature Scientific Reports and Elsevier’s Wear. His research adopts a multidisciplinary approach integrating advanced materials engineering, tribological characterization, composite development, machining science, and data-driven machine learning methodologies to address contemporary challenges in manufacturing and engineering.
He has undertaken externally funded research as Co-Principal Investigator of the VTU Research Grant Fund-supported project, “Synthesis and Characterization of Carbon Nanotubes Reinforced Copper Composite,” with a sanctioned grant of ₹7.5 lakh. The three-year project was successfully completed, contributing to the development and characterization of advanced nanocomposite materials.
Dr. Koti has guided 48 undergraduate and postgraduate student projects, with a postgraduate project under his mentorship receiving the Best Project Award for “Machine Learning-based Tool Condition Monitoring.” He has authored the books Flexible Manufacturing System and Operations Research, and has filed a patent application titled “A Vacuum-Bagged Composite Material and a Process for its Preparation.”
He has served as Session Chair at multiple international conferences and holds active memberships on the Board of Studies and Board of Examiners at Ramaiah Institute of Technology and other reputed institutions. He also contributes to institutional quality assurance as an active member of the NAAC/IQAC and NBA accreditation committees.
Additionally, Dr. Koti has played a pivotal role in the design and development of the postgraduate curriculum in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, aligning the programme with emerging industry requirements, technological advancements, and contemporary research trends. His academic, research, curriculum-development, and institutional contributions reflect a sustained commitment to excellence in engineering education, interdisciplinary research, innovation, and technology-driven solutions for modern manufacturing challenges.
