Dr. Sunith Babu L

Dr. Sunith Babu L is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Ramaiah Institute of Technology (RIT), Bengaluru, with over 22 years of academic experience. He earned his B.E. from Bangalore University (2000), M.Tech. in CAD/CAM from VIT (2003), and Ph.D. from JNTU Hyderabad (2016). He served at PES Institute of Technology (2003–2007) and RIT (2007–present), progressing from Lecturer to Professor. His expertise includes composite materials, low-velocity impact testing, damage-tolerance and mechanical characterisation of GFRP/CFRP/Kevlar hybrid laminates, manufacturing, WAAM, edge-computing-based digital twins, and FANUC/NVIDIA-enabled industrial robotics. He indigenously developed a Low-Velocity Impact Testing Machine and an in-house WAAM process for aerospace-component refurbishment. His AICTE- and VGST-funded research totals ₹62.34 lakh. He has guided 21 postgraduate dissertations and 26 undergraduate projects and currently supervises one Ph.D. scholar. He has authored over 34 journal, conference and book-chapter publications and holds six published patents in composites and mechanical design. An ASME member and RIT Academic Council member, he spoke at Autodesk University, Las Vegas, eight times (2007–2014) and served as a Skill India Competition Jury Member nominated by NSDC, Government of India (2016). His contributions span teaching, research mentoring and laboratory development.
